Let's face it; there are going to be times when we leave the home and leave our dogs alone for what can seem to be a long period of time. Whether you have a new puppy that is not quite litter trained or a dog who has loved the family for years, there are kennels for every dog.
Dogs do not come in only one size so naturally neither do kennels. For an indoor dog kennel, it is very important to choose a size big enough for your dog to stand up completely and still have room around them to turn around or move however they may need.
When preparing the kennel for your dog, always place a pillow or sheet inside of the kennel. This pillow should be easy to wash incase the dog has an accident or sheds a lot of hair. It is typically recommended that the pillow does not take up the entire bottom of the kennel, in case an accident happens. You can find in pretty much any grocery or pet supply store "puppy pads" to put down in the remainder of the cage for this purpose. If you are going to be away from your dog for a long time, it is important to place a food and water dish in the cage. The best types of dish for these are the kinds that connect to the cage. The general area you should attach the food dishes is onto the door to be on the safe side if the water dish should happen to spill.
It is very important to walk the dog before and after kennel time so they are able to go to the bathroom. Remember to reward your dog upon arriving home and releasing them from the kennel if they have not went to the bathroom inside of the cage.
